Sebastian Snowboots
Inside the parcel was one of Santa's elves, he's called Sebaatian Snowboots. The story says that he goes back to Santa each night to let him know whether or not we have behaved during the day. How exciting! I'll be on my best behaviour!
Christmas has come early!
A parcel arrived for reception class today, I wonder what it is. It says 'special delivery from Santa'...

Fruit time
Since starting school Reception children have begun to manage their own fruit time. They decide when they are hungry, wash their hands to get rid of any germs and sit down to a very sociable table with their friends.
It's hard to believe how much fruit the children eat...they are a very healthy bunch!

St Helen's Garden Centre
Today we have been thinking about our role-play area for this topic. We've decided on creating our own garden centre. We have begun to design the centre, we've made some flowers and a picket fence for the outside. Next week we will begin to use it to learn in a range of curriculum areas such as literacy (writing receipts, lists of flowers and seeds), maths (counting, problem solving, money), understanding the world (knowledge of plants, changes, bugs and insects, local environment, purposes of technology), communication and language (speaking, listening, understanding), PSED (building relationships, taking account of others' needs, sharing and taking turns).
Symmetry
We have started our new topic of 'The very hungry caterpillar' this week and we have already squeezed a lot into our week. We focused on maths this week and in particular, symmetry and patterns. We have all mastered shape patterns, colour patterns and repeating patterns so we looked at the beautiful symmetrical patterns on 'The very hungry caterpillars' butterfly. We created simple symmetrical patterns using counters on ladybirds, drawing our own butterflies and painting symmetrical patterns.

Healthy eating
Mrs Barrs visited Reception this afternoon to talk to us about being healthy. We came up with some good ideas about being healthy and impressed Mrs Barrs with our knowledge. We drew our own 'healthy lunchbox' and labelled the food items.
Shared learning
This afternoon year 3 children came down to reception to share their Easter stories with us. The year 3s worked very hard learning about Easter and were keen to share what they had learnt. We thoroughly enjoyed having them visit us and we hope to go and share our learning with them soon.

Independent learning
One of our independent learning challenges today was to create a repeating pattern in our maths area. Here is a fantastic example.
RE Good Friday
Today in RE we have been learning about Good Friday. We talked about why it is know as Good Friday and the class came up with some excellent ideas;'it's not good that Jesus died but he helps us and God helps us too. We remember him when we eat hot cross buns and they are good.'
We did some art based on Good Friday.
